The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils set a fiery tone for Wednesday night’s game with a massive brawl involving all 10 players on the ice right off the opening faceoff.
The skirmish, fueled by simmering tensions from previous encounters, saw multiple fights and numerous ejections within seconds of puck drop.
The Main Event:
Rangers forward Matt Rempe squared off against New Jersey’s Kurtis MacDermid in the focal point of the brawl, reigniting a feud stemming from their previous matchup. Their altercation, characterized by a lengthy exchange of blows, spilled over to center ice after other fights had concluded.
Ejections and Penalties:
Both teams saw four players ejected from the game, including Rempe, who was at the center of the initial confrontation.
Alongside Rempe, notable ejections included New York defensemen Jacob Trouba and K’Andre Miller, and forward Barclay Goodrow, as well as New Jersey’s Kevin Bahl and John Marino, and forwards Chris Tierney and MacDermid. All 10 players involved received five-minute fighting penalties.
Additional Altercations:
The chaos didn’t end with the opening brawl, as New York’s Will Cuylle engaged in another fight with New Jersey’s Dawson Mercer later in the first period.
The altercation was sparked by Cuylle’s hit on the Devils’ Brendan Smith into the boards, further escalating tensions between the rivals.
