Irish actor Cillian Murphy has once again showcased his talent by clinching the lead actor award in the film category at the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA). The County Cork native secured the prestigious accolade for his remarkable portrayal of nuclear scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Star-Studded Winners

Agnes O’Casey also received recognition at the IFTA, securing the lead actress in film award for her role in “Lies We Tell.” Meanwhile, Paul Mescal was honored with the best supporting actor award for his performance in “All of Us Strangers,” where he shared the spotlight with fellow actor Andrew Scott, nominated for the best actor category.

Surprises and Triumphs

The awards ceremony saw Portadown-born actor Richard Dormer claim the best supporting actor award in the drama category for his role in BBC One Drama “Blue Lights.” Dormer expressed his gratitude and described the win as a “big surprise,” acknowledging the efforts of the show’s producers and writers.

Kin and Other Triumphs

The Irish crime drama “Kin” emerged victorious, securing several awards, including the coveted best drama title. Stars Claire Dunne and Maria Doyle Kennedy were also recognized, with Dunne winning the lead actress award in the drama category and Kennedy clinching the supporting actress award.

Lifetime Achievement and Rising Stars

Belfast-born actor Stephen Rea was honored with the prestigious lifetime achievement award, while Siobhán Cullen was celebrated as the rising star for her role in “Obituary,” a dark comedy set in a small Irish town.

Musical Brilliance and International Recognition

In the realm of music, Divine Comedy frontman Neill Hannon, hailing from Londonderry, triumphed in the original music category for his soundtrack to the film “Lola.” Additionally, “Oppenheimer” secured the best international film award, adding to the array of accolades bestowed at the IFTA ceremony.
