A Long Island family expresses frustration over the lack of improvement in the police investigation into a 2021 acid attack on a woman outside her home. Three years have passed since the attack, yet the assailant remains unidentified, leaving the victim and her family seeking justice.

Reflecting on Progress and Frustration:

Nafiah Ikram, the victim of the acid attack, commemorates the anniversary of the incident while reflecting on her journey of recovery. Despite facing setbacks, she remains resilient, emphasizing the importance of perseverance even on the most challenging days.

Surveillance footage captured the harrowing moment when Ikram, then 21 years old, was assaulted with acid outside her home after completing a shift at CVS. The attack left her with severe injuries, leading to years of reconstructive surgeries.

Physical and Emotional Progress:

Despite enduring numerous surgeries to repair the damage to her eye, nose, and skin, Ikram acknowledges the progress she has made in her recovery. She highlights improvements in her ability to speak, eat, and overall quality of life, expressing gratitude for her blessings, particularly during Ramadan.

Ikram’s parents voice their dissatisfaction with the handling of the case by the Nassau Police Department, accusing them of negligence in the initial stages of the investigation. They assert that the lack of progress in identifying the perpetrator has caused them immense frustration and disappointment.

Assurance from the Police Commissioner:

In response to the family’s concerns, Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder assures that the investigation remains open and ongoing. He reaffirms the department’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrator and urges anyone with information to come forward.

Law enforcement authorities announce an increase in the Crime Stoppers reward to $50,000 for information leading to the attacker’s arrest. Ikram’s father appeals to the public to assist in solving the case, urging individuals knowledgeable about the incident to contact the police or the FBI.

The Brooklyn district lawyer said Friday he will not be filing any criminal accusations right now against the shooter in Thursday's subway shooting due to self-defense.
